The Worcester Red Sox had a chance to defeat the Buffalo Bisons on Monday night at Sahlen Field – about the same chance as winning the New York Lottery.
After falling behind early on, the Herd took over and cruised to a decisive 8-1 victory and were never seriously threatened.
Following Worcester’s opening score in the second inning, Nathan Lukes scratched out an RBI double to tie the game at one apiece in the third. Addison Barger got a two-RBI single to increase the lead to 3-1 and Jordan Luplow’s RBI double made it 4-1.
Spencer Horwitz followed that up with a sac fly in the fourth, Luplow hit a solo home run, Tyler Heineman’s base hit scored another runner and Rafael Lantigua got a sac fly of his own to complete the scoring.
Paxton Schultz earned the win after allowing one run (unearned) on four hits in five innings. He also struck out five while walking two to pick up his first victory of the season, and Hagen Danner, Yosver Zulueta and Jimmy Burnette surrendered no runs out of the bullpen.
Buffalo picked up their second win of the second half of the 2023 season and will begin a six-game series in Rochester on Tuesday night.
