Mr. Over/Under: Teaser: Philadelphia Even and Ravens/Titans Under 49
Remember, we make these picks on Thursdays. One thing we can’t control between Thursdays & Sundays are unexpected injuries and the weather. It’s always good to check those things, as the weather could affect games in Cleveland, Buffalo and New York this weekend. As I reported last week, the Bears have gone over every week so far and the Saints have gone under every week. There have been 10 more successful under than over bets so far this season in the NFL. I like Phily to continue their winning ways this week, but I don’t like giving 7-points to a good Jets defense. Baltimore and Tennessee have each gone over just once. So let’s do a 7-point parley teaser again, with Phily just needing to win and The Ravens/Titans under 49.
Man in Stripes: North Carolina -3 over Miami
There are coaching mistakes, see 13 seconds. Then there are coaching mistakes like we saw from Mario Cristobal. Cristobal’s blunder cost his team the win vs Georgia Tech. By not taking a knee Miami doesn’t come into this showdown in Chapel Hill undefeated. Now they are on the road in a crazy environment. The Tar Heels have Heisman candidate Drake Maye at QB. The Heels have played great the last few games but this is a fade of the Canes. No way they go on the road and get the win. The Canes coach might be in trouble at the end of the year if not sooner. Look for an alternative line, because I think this one might get ugly.
Mano: Kansas -2.5 over Oklahoma State
The Cowboys are coming off a surprising home win last Friday night against Kansas State. They won the turnover battle and were able to hang on late. This week the Jayhawks come to town sporting one of the best rushing attacks in the Big 12 if not the nation. Jalen Daniels is questionable but Jason Bean is no slouch at QB. He is a run first guy that can air it out if he has to. The line is short because of what Oklahoma State did last week. Let’s not forget Oklahoma State let South Alabama come to their building and win 33-7. The Jayhawks will control the clock and Oklahoma State will have trouble keeping up. Give me the Jayhawks to cover this short number on the road.
Brutal: Double Down: North Carolina -3 over Miami
I look at the strength of schedule in this one and it’s not even close. The only team Miami has beaten is A&M. People talk about how Miami lost to Georgia Tech. Keep in mind this is the same Georgia Tech team that lost to Bowling Green the week before. North Carolina has beaten South Carolina, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and App state. The offensive numbers are similar but when you factor in strength of competition it’s not even close. The atmosphere should be electric for the home team. I see this as a line that should have been closer to a touchdown than a field goal.
Philly: New Orleans -1.5 over Houston
CJ Stroud has played great up to this point throwing for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. The defense has been around middle of the pack allowing only 20 points per game, which is 11thin the NFL. The Saints on the other hand have dealt with a few injuries and suspensions. Now they are getting people back. Carr and Kamera had their first game together last week and they blew out New England. Olave and Michael Thomas have proved to be a good duo for Carr, combining for 600 yards together. While I like the way Stroud is playing I have to go with experience and the better defense here.
Bob: Notre Dame -2.5 over USC
Going back the last eight years when a 6-0 team is an underdog to a two-loss team the two-loss team that is favorite is 11-3 straight up. I like Notre Dame in this game because the Notre Dame offense has performed very well against bad defenses. The USC defense is bad. The Trojans were lucky last week to come away with a victory as a 21-point favorite at home to Arizona. The Notre Dame defense is so much better than USC’s. Notre Dame has played a very tough schedule. USC has played cupcakes up until this point. This is the toughest test for the USC offense and Caleb Williams. I believe Notre Dame at home is the way to go.
